Women in Signal Processing

Tuesday 16th of May 18:45 - 20:00, room "Caravelle 2"

Panel moderator: Sheila S. Hemami (Cornell University)

The Women in SP panel will be a dynamic and interactive forum whose goal will be to present and discuss a variety of career paths in signal processing and how they have worked for women.

Patentability of algorithms and software for signal processing

Thursday, 18th of May 18:45 - 20:00, room "Caravelle 2"

Panel moderator: Christian NGUYEN (Marks and Clerk)

Marks & Clerk is a long-established firm of patent and trade mark attorneys with an associated law firm specialising in intellectual property (IP)

Co-organizer: Maurice Bellanger (CNAM, Paris)

Patentability of algorithms and software is currently a hot topic in Europe (where a European "directive" has been rejected by the European parliament in July 05), in the US (where patentability of algorithms and software is being redefined), and in Asia (due to research and manufacturing delocalization or outsourcing in India and China). A first talk will provide an overview of the situation.

Then a forum will shed more light on these questions from various perspectives, supported by the panelists.
